The music of Linda Ronstadt and exploring the theme of Parkinson's disease

Tonight on A Mixed Bag with Chris B we listened to the music of Linda Ronstadt who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease last year.  Some of the songs on tonight's playlist were:-
Different drum (The Stone Ponies), Heatwave, Desperado, J.D Souther's Faithless Love, The Eagles Takin' it easy,  It's so easy, I'll be your baby tonight, some songs from the Trio album with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris (gorgeous harmonies!) and much more.
We learnt about how versatile Linda Ronstadt has been as a vocalist,  with Poor Wandering One from the Pirates of Penzance, a couple of Spanish songs from Canciones de Mi Padre (Corrido DeCanenea and Rocaciaño el Huapangüero) and  and a couple of songs from the album Lush Life with Nelson Riddle and His Orchestra (When I fall In love, and Skylark).  Linda Ronstadt has such a wide repertoire it was impossible to play all her music for the show, but I think we managed to play quite a few favourites.

Bob McDonald lives in Merimbula, on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, and has had Parkinson's disease for 20 years.  Bob maintains a very positive attitude towards the disease.

Thursday 3 April 2014

Last Tuesday night on A Mixed Bag with Chris B, our theme was Heroes.  We played songs about heroes of the silver screen (Elton John's Roy Rodgers), bush ranger heroes (Dr Hook's Wild Colonial Boy), heroes of rock (The Rolling Stones), working class hero songs (John Lennon's Working Class Hero and Jimmy Barnes with Working Class Man), and of course songs with the word Hero or Heroes in the title, David Bowie's Heroes, Bonnie Tyler's I Need A Hero and a song from Aussie band Little Heroes called One Perfect Day.
Chris B is looking for ideas for a theme for the show.  The crazier, the more "left of centre", the better!
If you have any ideas for a theme, please email amixedbagwithchrisb@gmail.com and Chris will choose the best theme, present a show with your theme idea, and of course, you will get all the credit!
For example, one theme idea suggested was Androgynous Singers, and Chris will present this theme on a Mixed Bag next Tuesday night between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm on 93.7 Edge FM, so if you live in the Bega Valley, tune in.
